Art Director
Studio Mega is a dynamic creative team specializing in brand identity, content creation and experience design. We work with companies big and small, from startups to industry leaders, defining new brands or refining existing ones. We believe deeply in the radical and transformative power of design.
To work at Mega is to be interested in helping craft the many ways in which creativity can shape the world. To be an Art Director on our team means that you’re a conceptual idea-generator, with the communication and technical skills to see your ideas develop into something real.
You’re an active contributor to the work, culture & success of a creative agency with aspirations to create world-class design. Bringing your natural curiosity, perceptive insights, and inspiring leadership to each project you influence.
We recognize that there is no one way to lead a practice, each of us comes with our own unique experiences and expertise. Listed below are a few specifics we expect from the Art Director role, along with more general traits that any of our most experienced team members draw upon, regardless of their particular function.
What you’ll do…
Start with insight
- As an antenna for outside inspiration, bring new thinking and curiosity into the studio and every project you touch.
- Interpret client asks and translate creative briefs into impactful creative execution.
- Bring an intimate awareness of contemporary trends, and the critical channels through which brands connect with their audiences today.
- Use a quantitative understanding of consumer metrics to guide concept development and to bring an objective point-of-view to creative decisions.
- Armed with keen market insights and working knowledge of the latest platforms, build a strategic framework that will allow our work to have the highest possible impact.
- Understand and translate a brand vision and voice consistently through multiple media channels.
Develop concepts
- Engage and inspire others as a true creative lead. Elevate creative exploration, innovation, and execution across all projects.
- As an ambitious idea-generator, help take our work to new levels with inspiring vision and a high degree of taste.
- During the progression of a project, lead the development and refinement of the core concept via workshops, critiques and feedback reviews.
- Consider all the relevant platforms where the content we create should exist. Develop a perspective not only about what we’re saying, but how and where we’ll be delivering it.
- Demonstrate an interest and ability to work directly with clients as a project lead when appropriate. Understand the nuances of acting as a trusted advisor to our clients.
- Deliver strategic system thinking through complex end-to-end programs.
- Present to internal and external teams as a true expert in your discipline. Use compelling presentations to clearly and convincingly communicate your vision and the plan for how to execute it.
Technical Skills
- As an Art Director, you will bring story and strategy together. You will start with big ideas, but also be responsible for building consensus and building a feasible plan for where and how the big idea gets executed.
- Be responsible for the quality and completeness of any work that you and your team put out into the world.
- Exhibit strong graphic design skills. An astute grasp of typography, composition, color, and layout.
What you’ll need…
- At least 7+ years design experience within an agency setting, including at least 4 years of experience creating campaign and content-based work for a brand agency.
- A portfolio of work demonstrating experience that’s relevant to the role and the work we do.
- High competency of brand and the role it plays in developing successful creative solutions.
- Strong work ethic with a steady ambition for elevating the quality of the work our studio produces.
- A devotion to your craft, both in theory and execution.
- A drive to meet the needs of our clients, help them achieve their goals, and to work flexibly within the parameters of any specific ask.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and in building client-facing presentations.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment that requires multitasking and managing shifting priorities.
- Savvy and confident communication skills that help clients – and our internal team – commit to and believe in the vision.
